A fake German heiress who lived a jetset lifestyle was yesterday due to answer charges in New York that she swindled hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Prosecutors claim Anna Sorokin, 28, conned friends, banks and hotels for a taste of the high life while using the alias Anna Delvey.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office alleged she lived in luxury New York hotel rooms she could not afford, took a friend on a lavish trip to Marrakesh before leaving her with the £47,000 bill, and peddled bogus bank statements in a quest for a £16million loan.
At times, she claimed her father was a diplomat, an oil baron or an energy entrepreneur. In reality, he is a former trucker who runs a heating and cooling business.

The one-time darling of the Big Apple social scene was last night set to stand trial on grand larceny and theft of services charges.
Court documents say she swindled £208,000 in just 10 months.
After Sorokin’s arrest in 2017, a prosecutor said: “She’s born in Russia and has not a cent to her name as far as we can determine.”
She is expected to be deported to Germany regardless of the outcome of the case.
Shonda Rhimes, who is behind TV shows Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, is creating a series about Sorokin, whose Instagram bio boasts: “Soon on Netflix.”
