Fake Dublin charity warning as people distributing flyers allegedly checking car and house doors

A Dublin area has been flooded by leaflets from a fake charity pleading for clothes and shoes.

Residents of Riverwood in Dublin 15 have been receiving a number of flyers purporting to be from a breast cancer prevention charity. A warning has been issued to locals to remain vigilant as some people distributing the leaflets late at night were allegedly checking car and house winds in the area.

The leaflet reads: "Please donate for breast cancer prevention programme. If we are able to diagnose breast cancer early enough, we may be able to save women's lives.

"Please help by donating any type of ladies', gents', and children's clothes and shoes." A wanting on the Riverwood Residents' Association Facebook page said: "This is not a legitimate charity. As always we discourage residents from providing items for these collections.

"Furthermore, some of those distributing the leaflets late at night are checking whether car and house doors are unlocked." Under the Charity Regultor's Guide, registered charities looking for donations should always have the following displayed on their leaflets:

  1. The charity’s name;
  2. The charity’s logo;
  3. Registered Charity Number and
  4. Contact details for the charity.
