More than 18,000 bottles of whiskey could be about to flood the black market after a cocky thief pulled off an £180,000 drive-by smash and grab.
The opportunist crook, wearing a high-vis jacket and hard hat helped himself to the major stash of Jameson Irish whiskey after attaching the booze-filled trailer to an empty HGV cab before driving away.
Police are now appealing for information into the theft which happened at McBurney Transport on Dunes Way in Kirkdale .
The trailer was later found dumped with the crates of whiskey completely stripped out in Atherton Road in Walton .
Police confirmed the whiskey was worth £180,000 and a whopping 18,000 bottles were taken.
A spokesman told the ECHO : "We’re appealing for information following the high-value theft of whiskey from a premises in Kirkdale.
"At around 8.40pm on Monday, November 25, a man wearing a high-vis jacket and hard hat gained entry to in an empty HGV cab, and connected the cab to a trailer containing around £180,000 of Jamieson’s whiskey He drove off and the trailer was later found empty in Atherton Road in Walton."
