Disclaimer: We have tweaked this article to reflect that the ad in question is AI-generated. It goes to show how AI is increasingly fooling the internet (a certain staff writer included).
Whether we like it or not, AI is permeating our everyday lives to the point where "ask ChatGPT" has become the new "Google it". What was once seen as a tool for the tech-savvy has become the everyman's helper equipped for every situation – or at least that's what ChatGPT wants you to believe.
Recently, OpenAI launched a campaign featuring munade, slice-of-life billboards that present ChatGPT as the ultimate companion. They were subsequently met with confusion for their minimalist, ambiguous design, leading to a bizarre parody so convincing that the internet was momentarily fooled.

Emulating the stripped-back style of the OpenAI campaign, one X user shared a billboard starring a heartbroken woman surrounded by takeaway boxes, insinuating that ChatGPT was the perfect remedy. "Not sure I understand the vision behind this one," they captioned the tweet.
Upon closer inspection, you can see the image has been created with AI thanks to the Nano Banana watermark in the corner – alas, the internet took the bait. "It's kinda fascinating when a company makes such an obvious blunder that any normal person could've stopped," one X user responded. "I feel stupid that I didn’t see the nano banana watermark at first." (Sadly, I can only agree).
Can someone tell me what this billboard is supposed to convey to me about ChatGPT? pic.twitter.com/caNCPGAyVCFebruary 2, 2026
It turns out the faux billboard is a take on the tweet above, featuring a rural scene of farmers fixing a tractor. Despite the ad being fake, there's a truth in how it reflects the discomforting way AI has permeated into everyday life. With many quick to call out the strange way that AI is being marketed in a human context, it's clear that many are uncomfortable with how far our reliance on the technology is heading.
