Fairytale of New York Christmas parody released by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue

Workers at West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have got into the festive spirit and released their own version of a much-loved Christmas classic.

Firefighter Jon Arey and Abi Austin with The Fixby Songbirds have put together and performed a parody of Fairytale of New York originally sung by The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl.

Their version 'A Tale of Safe & Well' has been view more than 8,400 times on social media, amassing 358 shares so far and a huge positive reaction.

They've used the song to highlight and remind people to stay safe this Christmas.

The University Of Huddersfield let them use the studio as well as helping with song production.

Christmas safety points you should remember:

  • Don’t cook if you have been drinking and never leave cooking unattended.
  • Never place candles near your Christmas tree or materials that can catch alight easily.
  • Keep candles, lighters and matches out of children’s reach. Never leave lit candles unattended.
  • Never overload electrical sockets. Always switch Christmas lights off and unplug them before you go to bed.
  • Decorations can burn easily – so don’t attach them to lights or heaters.
  • Take time to check on older relatives and neighbours this Christmas as they are potentially at greater risk from fire.
  • Make sure your family and visitors know how to escape in an emergency.
  • Check your Christmas tree lights carry the British Safety Standard sign.
