Fair Trade stalwart is praised for his work

West Lothian’s Fair Trade hero has been hailed by council leader Lawrence Fitzpatrick for his work.

Councillor Fitzpatrick won the cross-party agreement to his motion before the full council  congratulating Livingston man Andy Mount.

Andy has retired from his role after 20 years.

In his motion Councillor Fitzpatrick praised Andy’s work.

He said: “Council notes with appreciation the retiral of Andy Mount from the Fair Trade group.

“His service to the Livingston community and the wider country on the Fair Trade Initiative has been outstanding."

Andy has helped promote Fair Trade goods in West Lothian schools, shops and supermarkets and attended national and international conferences on developing Fair Trade in the area.

The motion praised his work and added the council's gratitude for his efforts.

It said: “His endeavours and dedication assisted Livingston in attaining Fair Trade status in 2000s, the first new town to attain this accolade.

“Sadly ailing health has forced Andy to take a stepback from these highly-commendable voluntary activities. Council records its gratitude and requests the provost write to Andy to this end.”
