Fair City viewers blown away upon return as they are hit by one feature of the RTE show

After a long hiatus soap fans rejoiced over the weekend following the return of Fair City.

The hit RTE show was placed on hold after filming was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, after much hard work behind the scenes show runners managed to resume filming while adhering to public health guidelines.

And on Sunday night viewers sat down for the highly anticipated return of Carrigstown to their screens.

The return episode saw Damien and Mairead reminisce about happier times during lockdown, while Doug and Erica struggled to get along living with eachother.

Masks, social distancing and hand sanitiser are all set to be regular additions to the soap (RTE)

Meanwhile Bob received a worrying phone call from his brother Jim.

But what really had viewers talking was the major changes made to the show in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

All the characters maintained social distancing throughout the episode while others could be seen wearing masks.

However the biggest addition was everyone's use of hand sanitiser which viewers couldn't help pointing out.

One viewer said: "Drink every time someone sanitises their hands. You’ll be unconscious by the first ad break."

Another said: "Great to catch up with #FairCity and to see that social distancing exists in Carrigstown. Also, hand sanitizing lots and lots of hand sanitizing.

And a third said: "Enough with the sanitiser We get it!! Dolores hands must be raw!!"

The drama in Dublin’s Fair City has been off the air since Easter Sunday, April 12, leaving storylines and fans up in the air for months.

Announcing the return of the show, executive producer Brigie De Courcy revealed they are cutting down to three episodes per week on air, but will continue to film four to act as a ‘buffer’ in case of a possible second wave.
