Fair City star Rodrigo Ternevoy will take 'big break' from show after domestic abuse storyline

Fair City star Rodrigo Ternevoy will take a "big break" from the RTE show after the conclusion of his domestic abuse storyline.

Rodrigo who plays Cristiano in the soap, said viewers could get "tired" of seeing him, RSVP Live reports.

Speaking on Dublin City FM, he said: "Sometimes I have a big break like at the moment I'm away until next year, I have a big break now.

"Usually, that's how it works.

"I think they like the idea of giving a break to a character that has been through a lot so they don't get tired of your face as well."

Ternevoy also spoke about the serious illness he suffered recently during a trip home to Brazil with his husband, which left him in hospital for a month and a half.

He explained: "If you have a very heavy storyline like the one that is just about to finish, part of the storyline anyway, we're all very busy.

"The guys were filming in June and July nonstop. I had to be away from the show for two months because I got very ill in Brazil.

"I ended up in hospital, I was away for like a month and a half so they had to write the character off the show for two months.

"It can be very busy for the people that are involved in very heavy storylines but as soon as that kind of fades away a little bit which is always the way in Fair City, it can be very busy and then you get less busy."

Opening up about his recent storyline, which saw his character abused by his husband Will, he explained that the writers introduced the abuse into their relationship slowly.

"Because it's a domestic violence storyline and again domestic violence is not only about physical abuse, it could be financial, it could be mental that sort of thing," he explained.

"The whole storyline started at the beginning of the year really, you could see some hints of over-controlling."

"As actors, we're not given the whole plot straight away so we keep getting script after script with something as heavy as domestic abuse."
