Fair City star Aisling O'Neill opens up on life with son, 11, and why she moved out of Dublin

Fair City star Aisling O'Neill has opened up about life with her son and why she decided to move out of Dublin.

The actress star is a single mum to 11-year-old Christopher, and they live away from the bustling capital city in the much calmer surroundings of Gorey, Co Wexford.

Aisling and Christopher's family home is just a drive away from the beach, which is a very familiar setting to the Carol Foley actress as she grew up in Dalkey, South Co Dublin, RSVP Live reports.

"It was lovely growing up there, it's a lovely area. I grew up by the sea and I'd walk the beach most days if I can," Aisling told Magazine +.

Asked why she moved out of Dublin and down the country, she explained: "I needed to get a house. Something came up there. It was coastal. Something I could afford and I just went 'Okay, I'll go for it.'

"They're very nice where I live. I'm part of the furniture now. They say hello and all that, I'm part of the community."

Aisling has passed her love of being by the sea on to her son Christopher, as they spend a lot of time together walking, swimming and horse riding.

"I'm only 10 minutes from the beach in the car - Ballymoney beach, and we love it. I was out swimming in Curracloe yesterday," she said.

"I do a small bit of horse riding when I have time. I love nature.

"My son comes to the beach most of the time with me. We'd walk the beach and he swims as well. He'd jump into the sea a lot. I bring him horse riding as well."

Aisling previously opened up about being a single parent, admitting it can be tough at times.

She told the RTE Guide: "It can be tough at times because you are solely responsible for a lot of things but so far, so good. Christopher is very understanding and he is a good little listener.

"He knows that I am doing my best, just as I know that he is doing his best. It is tough being a single parent but it’s tough for parents in general. It’s just hard to raise children these days."
