Fair City spoilers: Viewers set for tough watch as show tackles domestic abuse

Fair City viewers might be in for an uncomfortable watch tonight as the show will tackle domestic abuse.

It’s been brewing for some time, as fans of the RTE show will have seen Will Casey struggle with ex wife Mairead moving on with new partner Damien.

Meanwhile, his partner Cristiano has spent some time abroad with his brother Jake.

Tonight’s episode features just the couple with therapist Maddie, who guides the pair through a couples therapy session.

With Will anxious not to go, he coaches Cristiano on what he is going to say.

Nervous, Cristiano struggles to get the lie out when he attends the session on his own. But Will takes control of the situation, undermining the therapist’s position.

John Cronin, who plays Will, said the upbringing of his character is what led him to this point.

He added: “Will growing up in the 80s in Dublin internalised a lot of homophobia that he had been hearing and had suppressed the side of himself that was attracted to men, and now it has ended up coming out later in life in a destructive way… what had started as a double life with issues of control, he now blames Cristiano for the loss of his family and that’s what we see really coming out in tonight’s episode”.

The sense of foreboding is prevalent throughout but it isn’t until the pair arrive home later that day that the extent of Will’s abuse really becomes apparent.

With the discovery of Maddie’s out-of-hours card, Will loses control.

When Will intimidates Cristiano, he makes a run for it.

But the Dubliner catches him and drags him across the apartment.
