Fair City's Louis Lovett says socially-distanced acting 'completely surreal'

Fair City newbie Louis Lovett has admitted socially-distanced acting on the soap due to Covid-19 has been totally “surreal”.

Best known for his roles in Killinascully and Moone Boy, the star also revealed it has always been on his bucket list to appear on the hit RTE show.

He told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “I have a lot of friends and colleagues who work on Fair City who I was very happy to join.

“It’s very different to other things I have done. The turnaround with soaps is so relentless and they can work very quickly and I suppose I had some trepidation when it came to that.

“I just had to make sure I’d all my lines learned because I didn’t want to be the one to stop the filming.”

And when it comes to working at a distance, Louis said: “It’s completely surreal. I was fortunate to do some theatre development work in July and August... and I got used to the weirdness of it all.

“Not being able to hand a prop to another person, not being able to jump up and sit down on a chair beside them, it was all new and a learning curve.”

Louis, who will be hitting the streets of Carrigstown tonight, will play Louis Gleeson who hasn’t been seen on the soap since way back in 2008.

When Mike Gleeson died as a result of dodgy electrics in the Bistro, it came to light that he’d left the restaurant to his brother Louis.

  • Fair City, RTE One, tonight at 8pm.
