Fair City's Eric Lalor opens up about rough spot during lockdown and fears about being unable to provide for his family

Fair City star Eric Lalor has opened up about how he's been having a 'tough' time during lockdown and fears being unable to provide for his family.

The onset of the coronavirus and lockdown has made Eric worry about the future of his career.

In an interview for The Six O'Clock show he said: "I've been better, I'll be honest. I have been better.

"The start if the pandemic I think was such a novelty it was kind of like a big adventure because I don't think anyone realised how long it was going to go on for.

"We thought at the start, naively, we though maybe a couple of weeks. I enjoyed the start of the lockdown and the whole thing.

"And then as time rolled on you kind of realise the seriousness of the situation and the bleakness of the forecast for the future.

"I have my bad days and my good days but I've had a tough time the last six weeks or so.

"I've had to slow down and assess things and have a look at my own life and how I can help myself I suppose you know because I was just getting really down on myself about everything.

"You know, you're worried about the parents, you're worried about the pandemic, you're worried about your future in comedy, is there going to be comedy?

He admitted that the inconsistency of acting jobs and comedy gigs is tough to handle and he's really thinking about what he needs to do to support his family financially while he can't act or perform during lockdown.

Eric took to Instagram to express how much he missed his comedy gigs. (Instagram)

He said: "My priority is my family and I have to look out for them and I have to put whatever interests that I have to the side and I have no problem doing that."

Host Muireann acknowledged her sympathy for Eric

She said: "It's really heartbreaking to hear because you've had to reassess your whole life because of this pandemic and of course you'd be in a rut because of that."

When they asked him would he consider using social media to boost his income he replied: "I'm not versed on the ways of earning money via social media to be honest with you.

"I know influencers or whatever make a living out of it but I'm just a stupid stand-up from Dublin who pulls funny faces and puts on stupid voices. I'm not sure there's a market out there for that.

"I had to help myself and that was one step I've made is just deleting my apps from my phone and I don't know whether I'll go back on them. But at the moment I'm not missing it one bit."
