Fair City fans left 'star struck' after Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell makes a surprise cameo

Fair City fans were sent into a frenzy after Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell made a surprise cameo on the popular soap opera.

Viewers were treated to an appearance from the country singer after it was revealed that he was the special celebrity guest organised by Cass.

While the residents of Carrigstown doubted his plans and ability to pull in an A-lister, Cass came through and introduced him to Lee through FaceTime, RSVP Live reports.

As expected, social media went into overdrive and some people even predicted future story lines involving the Donegal man.

One said: "Fair City I am totally star struck with #DanielODonnell being on Cass's phone."

A second added: "Home after a hard days work the usual of a Thursday father listening to farm news on KCLR with Matt O’keefe.

"I sit down to flick on RTE, lo and behold one of the greatest TV moments of all time Daniel O’Donnell FaceTiming Cass on Fair City. #remarkable

A third commented: "DANIEL O'DONNELL!!!! Eeek!"

"Called it, knew it'd be Daniel O'Donnell," added a fourth.

And a fifth tweeted: "Daniel O’Donnell cameo appearance on Fair City? The kind of content I like to see in 2020."

Another fan suggested that Daniel will play a part in the ongoing search to find Hayley's Dad after it was revealed that Ger was her mother. They said: "Could wee Daniel be Hayley's dad?"

A viewer at home also called on Noel Cunningham to be the next celebrity to appear on the long-running RTE One show: "So a Donegal music legend #DanielODonnell had a subtle cameo appearance on tonight’s episode of Fair City, now wouldn’t it be fantastic to have another Donegal ambassador Noel Cunningham turn up in Carrigstown to rate The Pod! Great storyline idea!"

Daniel O'Donnell is not the only special guest to have appeared on Fair City.

Meave Binchy, Joe Duffy, Gay Byrne, Larry Gogan, Shane MacGowan and Marty Whelan have all played themselves over the years.
