Fair City fans disappointed as episode this week cancelled by RTE due to Republic of Ireland match

Fair City fans are disappointed as Tuesday night's episode of the soap has been cancelled to allow for the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2020 qualifier match clash against Switzerland to be aired.

The popular RTE soap usually airs on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays but after Sunday night, fans will have to wait until Wednesday to get their fix.

Although the match is due to be shown on RTÉ2 and  Fair City  usually airs on RTÉ One, bosses have chosen Tuesday as a drop date, RSVP Live reports.

In recent years, the number of  Fair City  episodes per year has been reduced to 200 - meaning eight episodes have been axed.

The drop dates usually coincide with big TV events like the Eurovision, the Rose of Tralee and sports events.

But fans are not too impressed and have taken to Twitter to air their thoughts.

"Gud God they should have that football on bout 4 in the morning when every one is gone to bed never mind disrupting my TV time," wrote one.

"Why don’t they move the match to another channel, instead of taking fair city off, or better still give us an hour on Wednesday instead , just a thought," said another.

The show will return on Wednesday October 16 with a special two-hander episode revolving around Will and Cristiano visiting a therapist.

Things turn violent when Cristiano tries to sneak out of the apartment - and Will catches him.
