Fair City and Wild Mountain Thyme star Clare Barrett says trailer 'scuppered' film

Fair City star Clare Barrett, who starred as Christopher Walken's wife in Wild Mountain Thyme, admitted the trailer didn't do them any favours.

However, defending the flick, which was blasted for its Irish accents when the trailer was first released, the actress said it all ‘makes sense’ when you watch it in full.

Describing the rom com as ‘tongue in cheek’ in parts, she said: “I think it was the trailer that scuppered it.

“We watched the film, myself and my husband, because we were supposed to have a premiere here and then they released it to everybody.

“I think it is made for an American audience, not necessarily Ireland. It was a great experience. And lovely people.

The new film is set in Ireland and is due to be released in December (Kerry Browm / Bleecker street)

“And actually when you see the whole film it kind of makes sense the whole trailer part, it is quite tongue in cheek in parts.

“Jamie, I think did a great [accent].

“The gas thing is the trailer now did nobody any favours.”

The actress, best known as Carrigstown nurse Bronagh, played Hollywood star Christopher Walken’s wife, Mary Reilly, in the new film.

Gushing about her experience, she said: “It was a fantastic thing to be part of.

“Like I was playing Christopher’s wife.

“In a flashback, in his youth kind of thing. And then my character dies early.

“But they talk, Wild Mountain Thyme was her song,” she explained, speaking on Ireland AM on Tuesday.

The nurse turned acting star, who is now starring opposite Domhnall Gleeson in a play called ‘Medicine’ also heaped praise on her time working with director John Patrick Shanley.

She said: “It was a fantastic thing to be part of.

“A huge production.

“And it is kind of quite nostalgic on his part because it is based on his parents and they were based outside Mullingar, which is the name of the play.”
