Failure of care in tragic Sharon Greenop case can't be repeated

Only one person is guilty of the horrific murder of Sharon Greenop – that’s her sister Lynette, who subjected her to years of neglect and abuse before killing her and leaving her to rot in her home.

But the equally horrific breakdown in the care system that should have protected Sharon has been laid bare in the significant case review, which has revealed the damning failings of the social work protocols that should have been followed.

A long list of systematic failings and a longer list of recommendations to make sure that the same circumstances do not arise again.

Murdered Troon mum Sharon Greenop 'may still have been alive' if social work protocol had been followed

In short, the social care system missed almost every opportunity to raise adult protection concerns regarding Sharon’s wellbeing, which could have resulted in interventions that could have stopped her being abused.

Her life could have been saved if procedures had been followed.

The systematic failure of the social work care package led to a cruel death.

The recommendations of the report must be enacted in full to make sure that nothing like this happens again.
