Failed Political Candidate Hit With Second Charge After Alleged Nazi Salute At The AFL

Tylere Baker-Pearce, a failed political candidate, has been hit with a second charge after he allegedly performed a Nazi salute during an AFL semi-final match.

Per 9News, the 39-year-old was accused of performing the salute at the Gabba on September 13, ahead of the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns semi-final round.

Police allege that Baker-Pearce did the salute during the match’s Welcome to Country and national anthem.

As a result of the incident, Baker-Pearce was handed a lifetime ban from all major sporting facilities in the state, as well as criminal charges for alleged public display of a Nazi salute, which is punishable by up to five years in prison.

However, police have alleged that Baker-Pearce repeated the salute on the same day, just minutes after he was released from the Brisbane watchhouse on the first charge, 9News reports.

On Monday, during an appearance at Brisbane Magistrates Court, Baker-Pearce claimed he was disability support pensioner who also volunteered at a charity organisation.

He didn’t enter a plea to the first charge and was granted bail to reappear on October 17. However, police were waiting outside where he was then re-arrested.

Per 9News, Baker-Pearce was then taken to an interview room, arrested, and taken under police escort to a watch house, where he was handed the new charge over the alleged second salute.

Speaking to reporters outside of Brisbane Arrests Court, the failed politician claimed he was “innocent” and that he was not sure as to why he was charged.

“I’m innocent,” he said, denying he performed the salute.

“I’m a loyal Australian patriot.”

Baker-Pearce unsuccessfully ran as an independent in the Victoria state election in 2022 and the Queensland state election in 2017.
