FAI to hold meeting tonight on Ireland's video and team talk before England clash

FAI top brass will hold a meeting tonight as part of the investigation into events that took place before Ireland's friendly against England at Wembley last week.

Ireland manager Stephen Kenny met this afternoon with the association's interim CEO Gary Owens to discuss a complaint made over a three-minute video and team talk given by Kenny on the day of the match.

An FAI statement released last night revealed that an investigation into the situation would take place as "a matter of urgency".

Sources say the meeting between Kenny and Owens was "fairly positive" but Owens will discuss the situation further with the association's new CEO Jonathan Hill and president Roy Barrett later this evening, and it is believed that Kenny and Hill will speak over the weekend.

The FAI's executive board hasn't met yet over the situation but it is not believed that Kenny's position is at risk.

Ireland are yet to win a game in eight attempts under the Dubliner, who succeeded Mick McCarthy in the hot-seat in April and whose endeavours to build towards the start of next March's World Cup qualification campaign were hit by injuries, suspensions and Covid cases.
