FAI sign off on Brisbane base for World Cup finals

Ireland have confirmed that Brisbane will be their base for next summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Manager Vera Pauw revealed the base camp plans last week but the FAI have signed off on the Emporium Hotel and Goodwin Park training ground.

The Girls in Green open their World Cup campaign against co-hosts Australia in Sydney on July 20.

They travel to Perth to face Canada in their second game on July 26 before tackling Nigeria in Brisbane on July 31.

Pauw said today: “We’re delighted that our base camp will be in Brisbane because it was actually our first choice.

"After the draw for the tournament was made, I was part of our FAI delegation that flew directly to Sydney to visit some of the potential hotels and training grounds.

“But we actually decided that Brisbane would be a better fit. A lot of work has already taken place in preparation for next year's tournament.”

Ireland - who have climbed to an all-time high of 23rd in the FIFA rankings - have games in February, April and June ahead of the World Cup finals.
