FAI launch probe into second match involving Limerick FC over 'unusual betting patterns'

A second match involving Limerick FC is being investigated for ‘unusual betting patterns’.

The FAI tonight confirmed it has launched a probe into their August 24th FAI Cup clash away to Sligo Rovers.

First Division outfit Limerick led their Premier Division rivals 2-0 after seven minutes but lost 6-2 and had three players sent off.

Limerick’s league game against Shelbourne in April is already being investigated by the association.

The FAI said it is acting on the back of a UEFA report into two Limerick matches and a spokesman said the investigations are ongoing.

“We are committed to a zero tolerance policy on match fixing in conjunction with UEFA. The FAI is also aware of a Garda investigation into match fixing,” he said.

On Tuesday, the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau swooped on a sports ground in Limerick where a number of mobile phones were seized.
