FAI Cup quarter-final draw: Dundalk face away trip to Waterford while Shamrock Rovers travel to Galway

Holders Dundalk have been drawn away to Waterford in the FAI Cup quarter-finals.

But Vinny Perth’s treble-chasers won’t be fazed having pulled off a dramatic extra-time away win over Derry City in Friday’s second round.

Their arch rivals in the league, Shamrock Rovers, also face an away day duel having been paired with Galway United in a repeat of the 1991 final, won by the Tribesmen.

After a frustrating first-half, Rovers eased past Drogheda United 4-0 on Friday to book their place in the last eight.

Non-league Crumlin United’s reward for beating Lucan United yesterday is a home tie against Bohemians.

Manager Martin Loughran told RTE’s Morning Ireland: “It’s a great draw for us - a local derby and it’s great for the club and the area.

“We’ll do our best to keep home advantage but if (the game has to be moved to a bigger stadium) we’ll see what the FAI come up with.”

Sligo Rovers beat Limerick on Saturday in a madcap 6-2 game and will host UCD - who stunned St Pat’s on Friday - in the last eight.

FAI president Donal Conway was due to conduct the draw in RTE alongside former League of Ireland midfielder Paul Corry but was replaced by Johnny McDonnell.

After further FAI revelations over the weekend, RTE said the association informed them last night that Conway was no longer available.

FAI CUP Quarter-Final Draw

Galway United v Shamrock Rovers

Sligo Rovers v UCD

Waterford v Dundalk

Crumlin United v Bohemians

(Ties to be played September 6,7,8)
