FAI bosses to meet Ministers Shane Ross and Brendan Griffin on Monday

FAI bosses will meet with Minister Shane Ross and Minister for State for Sport Brendan Griffin on Monday.

This follows a request, according to a Government statement, for an 'urgent meeting....to discuss the pressing challenges facing the organisation at this critical time' - and after the FAI pulled out of a planned Joint Oireachtas hearing on Wednesday.

However Ministers Ross and Griffin have made it clear to the FAI that it is 'disappointing' that the association's new independent chair and three new independent directors are not yet in place and won't be present at the meeting.

It was revealed last night that while a FAI nominations committee has a preferred candidate for the independent chair and for the directors' posts, all four candidates are currently looking into the association's affairs before committing to join the FAI board.

'Given the stated urgency, a meeting has been arranged with the FAI directors elected at the July 2019 AGM,' added the statement, which means that outgoing FAI president Donal Conway will be present.

Conway is stepping down at the FAI's recovened AGM on December 29, by when it is hoped the new board members will be confirmed.
