The FAI today stepped up its coronavirus prevention measures by banning pre and post-match handshakes between players and match officials.
The measure had been implemented by the Dublin & District Schoolboys League (DDSL) last weekend.
But it has now been extended to all matches under FAI jurisdiction, as per a UEFA directive.
An FAI statement said: “This comes into effect immediately and will remain until further notice across all games in the Republic of Ireland.
“The decision has been taken in line with recommendations made by the World Health Organisation to minimise potential transmission of COVID-19.
“The FAI medical team remains in communication with the Department of Health and will follow all government recommendations regarding coronavirus.”
