The absence of Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield won't make Brisbane's AFL task against the Cats on Friday any easier in the opinion of coach Chris Fagan.
The Lions head to GMHBA Stadium on the back of a shock 31-point loss to Sydney in their season opener.
Fagan said his team's defensive performance was epitomised by "laziness" from his players with the Swans recording 59 entries inside the forward 50.
The Lions now face a Cats outfit similarly hurting after losing to Adelaide in a boilover in round one.
That defeat had a double blow, with Dangerfield copping a three-game ban for his hit that left Crows defender Jake Kelly with a concussion and a broken nose.
Even with Dangerfield's absence for Geelong, Fagan says his team has to be vastly improved to be in the contest against a team that beat the Lions twice last year including in the preliminary final at the Gabba.
"Geelong had the wood on us last year, quite clearly, they were the one team in the comp that were able to dominate us," Fagan said.
"They beat us in the hunt and contested part of the game, so that's where it all starts.
"If we don't get that bit right we can't get the other bits right."
In addition to Dangerfield, the Cats will be without key recruit Jeremy Cameron (hamstring), Mitch Duncan (calf) and Sam Menegola (shoulder), who was subbed out in the Crows match.
Despite those absences, Fagan knows Brisbane have to improve drastically on their performance against the Swans if they're to claim a first win for the club in Geelong since 2003.
"We expect the best version of Geelong," Fagan said.
"They've got some good players in that weren't around last year like (Shaun) Higgins and Isaac Smith.
"They're very hard to beat on their home ground ... we embrace those challenges.
"We like trying to win at venues we haven't won at for a long time.
"That's no different this week, that's a good motivation."
Geelong made four changes to their selected team, bringing in Zac Tuohy, Charlie Constable, Jack Henry and debutant Francis Evans.
Josh Jenkins and Zach Guthrie were dropped.
Brisbane brought in Tom Berry to replace Keidean Coleman.
