Facundo Pellistri sets target after finally making Manchester United debut

Facundo Pellistri says he wants to continue to help his Manchester United teammates achieve their ambitions for the rest of the season after finally making his debut for the club.

The 21-year-old came on in the 84th minute of United's win over Charlton, his first competitive appearance in two years, three months and five days after his £9million move from Penarol.

Pellistri made an instant impact from the bench as well, as he set up fellow substitute Marcus Rashford's first goal in the 3-0 League Cup quarter-final win over Charlton.

It took a long time to happen, but the United youngster is delighted to have finally represented the club in a meaningful match.

“[It was] amazing,” he told MUTV. “I have been waiting for this moment for a long time, and it came. Of course, I'm really happy because of the moment and the way it was, and that is incredible.

“I had the luck to be at Old Trafford in other squads, but unluckily I didn't enter the pitch to play. I looked at the crowd and all the time I thought 'when will my moment arrive to play?' And today was the day and I enjoyed it a lot.”

The Uruguay international has been attracting plenty of loan interest in the January window, but he suggests he would rather stay at United until the end of the season.

He added: "Yes of course [I was eager to play]. I am very happy, and I want to help my team-mates to achieve all the trophies that we have in mind and to win every game we have because this is an incredible club and very big.

"All players want to play and of course I want more. I will fight and train hard to continue this way."
