Facundo Pellistri confirms he rejected Ligue 1 side to complete Manchester United transfer

New Manchester United signing Facundo Pellistri has confirmed he rejected the chance to join Lyon in order to seal a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Pellistri, 18, joined the club on deadline day, penning a five-year contract with the option to extend it for a further season.

United scouted the young forward for a number of years before accelerating their plans to sign the Uruguayan after missing out on priority transfer target Jadon Sancho.

Penarol asked to keep Pellistri on loan until January but the request was rejected by United as they plan to add him to their first-team squad immediately.

Pellistri says it is a dream come true to sign for United and revealed he rejected the advances of Ligue 1 side Lyon in order to move to the Premier League.

"It was unimaginable and to play in the first division of Penarol and now to do it in Manchester United," he told futbol . "I would never have dreamed of it and it is something very emotional for me and my family.

"There was a lot of talk about the two offers and luckily they tried to leave me out as much as possible so as not to go crazy. First came Lyon and then Manchester and I am very happy with the opportunity

"It's a league that I always watch with my parents, seeing the great teams and you can't imagine going to play there.

"Now that I have the chance to play there, I'm eager to start a new adventure and see how the rhythm is and if it is as much as they say."
