Fact check: J.J. Watt does not have a Peloton

The NFL world was abuzz on Monday morning when a Peloton profile allegedly belonging to former Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt was found and published to Twitter.

On the Peloton profile entitled “kJWatt” — either a pun on the unit kilojoules or evidence Watt’s massive fingers clip nearby keys on the regular — some of the locations listed were Super Bowl 56, Green Bay, Cleveland, and Buffalo, indicating that Watt may have visited these cities or spoken with their teams as he looks for a new NFL home.

On March 1 in a normal year, the NFL combine would be going on in Indianapolis and draft prospects would have to answer the media’s questions from podiums and tables. In March 1 of an ongoing pandemic that has squelched human activity, speculation over a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year’s free agency destinations via hints on Peloton ensued.

Of course, just as Watt has crushed the dreams of many a quarterback dropping back to pass or stifled the progress of any advancing runner, the former 2011 first-round pick from Wisconsin shut down the rampant rumors.

“I don’t own a bike,” Watt tweeted. “Stop.”

Watt was released by the Texans on Feb. 12, and he is free to negotiate with any NFL team, not having to wait for free agency to begin on March 17.
