Facing Rangers in front of 50,000 will be intense, but we'll cope, says Well boss

Graham Alexander says Motherwell can topple Rangers on Sunday, and have the character to cope with the white-hot atmosphere of 50,000 baying home fans at Ibrox.

Rangers will raise last season's Premiership flag in front of a packed crowd at Ibrox, and Alexander knows his side will need to be on top form to have a chance of taking three points, but says the visitors can pose a threat to Steven Gerrard's side just as much as they will on the day.

He said: "[Playing in front of 50,000 home fans] is part of the game - if you don't want to be part of these games then I think you're in the wrong sport.

"We want to be at the highest level that we can be, to experience and compete, and win in these games.

"You've got to relish it, rather than be concerned about it, and to be fair, knowing my players, I think they will relish the challenge.

"We've not bowed in any challenge so far, since we came in, but we know the challenges and how tough a game it will be.

"We haven't had an easy game yet, we don't expect one, certainly not one on Sunday, but we're used to making it difficult for ourselves in training. The way we train against each other makes it difficult, in preparation for the game.

"The atmosphere will be intense, it has to be handled by everybody on the day, but we have to focus on what we do with the ball and without the ball - and that's it.

"If we do that right, then we give ourselves the best chance of winning.

"We have to defend very well, we have to use the ball really well in the times when we have it, and we have to offer an attacking threat, so pretty similar to every approach we have.

"We understand the quality that Rangers have, I don't have to talk about what they have going for them, it has been proven on the pitch for a long time.

"But I also feel that every game of football is an opportunity to beat an opponent - it's 11 v 11 at the end of the day.

"We have to be better as a team, rather than individually, than any opponent that we play, and Sunday is no different for us.

"We go there focusing on the game of football, nothing else, what we have to do to stop or minimise Rangers' threats, because there are many, but also take part in the attacking side of the game, which we feel we have threats that can hurt teams as well.

Alexander says he won't approach Rangers differently to any other side (SNS Group)

"That's the importance of what we try to stress to the players, that we have to take part in games in an attacking sense as well.

"Obviously teams will have their own plans to stop that from happening, but we have to overcome them."

Alexander added: "It's a fantastic stadium, it will be full of Rangers supporters, and we have to overcome those things, but we can't control that, that's not within our control, controlling the atmosphere and the crowd.

"All we can do is control our performance, how we play, our tactics, our approach to the game, and that's what we have to focus on.

"There will be no change in the message or approach, or how we plan for this game, because we treat every single game with the utmost importance, and we show every opponent 100 per cent respect, and Sunday is no different to that."
