Facebook,WhatsApp and Instagram crashes as thousands report the messaging services down

People around the country have been finding their usual method of communicating with family, friends and work colleagues is down - as the Facebook-owned direct messaging service What'sApp, Instagram and Facebook itself have crashed.

Reports of the What'sApp app crashing on other websites that monitor communications outtages mushroomed from zero to more than 1,000 a minute at around 4.20pm.

And that was swiftly followed by freezes and crashes on Facebook's other site Instagram, as well as glitches and problems with Facebook itself.

Desktop users found that many people refreshing Facebook or Instagram got a 500 server error message, while What'sApp itself is not re-loading and desktop users of What'sApp are finding the connections between their phones and their laptops or computers have broken.

Other apps in the Facebook family, like Facebook Messenger also appear to have stopped working for many people.
