Facebook unveils new logo in bid to distinguish between company and social media platform

Facebook is rebranding its logo in a bid to distinguish between the actual company and the website and social media platform of the same name.

The global tech giant has changed its company name to FACEBOOK while the app and website will remain as Facebook.

The new company logo is a multi-coloured design which will be stamped on its other products, including Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Occulus, in a few weeks.

Meanwhile, the app and website will keep the well-known blue logo.

The idea is to make it easier for people to differentiate between the parent company and the social media platform.

Antonio Lucio, Facebook's chief marketing officer, said: "we’re updating our company branding to be clearer about the products that come from Facebook.

"We’re introducing a new company logo and further distinguishing the Facebook company from the Facebook app, which will keep its own branding.

Instagram will soon carry the new logo (Facebook)

"The new branding was designed for clarity, and uses custom typography and capitalization to create visual distinction between the company and app.

"This brand change is a way to better communicate our ownership structure to the people and businesses who use our services to connect, share, build community and grow their audiences."
