Facebook Messenger is down and people across the world can't send messages

Facebook messenger is currently down - and users have turned to Twitter to vent their frustration about being unable to send messages.

People across the globe have been unable to access the popular messaging app since around 9.30pm.

It's led to an outpouring of memes and mock rage on Twitter, with many joked that they were only there to check if others were affected.

Some said they were also unable to access messages on Instagram - another app owned by Facebook.

There are reports on other social media of the app crashing after opening and people being unable to send messages.

One user said: "Facebook messenger and instagram are down Was it something I said?"

Another woman said: "Facebook messenger is down so I have to switch to messaging my sister on twitter."

One man bemoaned being unable to send a recipe to his friend, while another quipped: "Looks like I’ll have to talk to humans again".
