Facebook, Messenger and Instagram down today as thousands of users report problems

Three very popular apps have reportedly stopped working for thousands of users.

Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Instagram are all having problems with sending and receiving messages - and some users are complaining that their apps have stopped working completely.

The issues started at around 10am today when thousands of users reported problems to outage tracker Down Detector.

In the last four hours tens of thousands of users have indicated they are having similar problems.

The majority of the complaints centre around the Facebook Messenger app. Users say messages are taking a long time to send and friends are not showing as online.

One said: "Messenger is taking a while to send messages and not letting me see who's online."

Another said: "I run my business through Messenger so waiting for this to be fixed is a pain in the backside."

While a third added: "Messages are taking a very long time to deliver - I texted a couple of people and they are having the same problems."

An official spokesman for Facebook told The Sun that the problem would be fixed soon but did not say how long it would take.

He said: "We are aware that some people are having trouble sending messages on Messenger, Instagram and Workplace Chat.

"We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible."
