Facebook, Instagram outage mostly resolved, company says

SAN JOSE, Calif. _ Facebook, which was down for some users around the world Wednesday morning, is back for almost everyone, the company said.

"A networking issue" was to blame for the disruption of Facebook services, which the company began fixing within an hour, a spokeswoman said.

However, a map by Down Detector, which keeps track of outages of the world's largest social network, still showed problems throughout the world Wednesday afternoon, including comments from users who chimed in to say they couldn't access Facebook or that the site was slow.

The #FacebookDown hashtag was also making the rounds on Twitter. Some users said they could access Facebook on mobile but not desktop.

In addition, Instagram users reported they were unable to use Facebook's photo-sharing social network.

Facebook says it has 2 billion users worldwide, and that Instagram has 800 million users.
