Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp down in global outage: Everything we know as services crash

In the last hour, there have been reports that Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are down with many taking to social media to complain.

Within the last 20 minutes, there have been 4187 reports of the messaging app being down, nearly 2000 reports of Facebook being down and 3400 of Instagram not working.

The service outage is said to be affecting everyone worldwide according to DownDetector, with social media users who tried to access Facebook receiving messages reading: "Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on it and will fix it as soon as we can."

In total more than 20,000 WhatsApp users reported issues from approximately 4pm UK time.

One asked: "Is WhatsApp down or my internet isn't working?"

Another joked: "Instagram down, WhatsApp down - as they should be. Please don't come back so I can stop going deeper into the rabbit hole that is my addiction to social media. Please take Snapchat and Twitter with you."

A third added: "When WhatsApp, Facebook & Instagram all go down, Twitter suddenly gets really busy."

A fourth tweeted: "Not me thinking it was my phone but actually WhatsApp, FB and IG is down."

Facebook issued an update tonight (October 4) at 5.22pm on Twitter and said: "We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience."
