Facebook, Instagram and Messenger down across UK and Europe

People across the UK and Europe have reported Instagram as well as Facebook and Facebook Messenger are down this morning.

Users receiving errors saying there's no internet connection, or just being unable to update the feed on the app are currently being experienced by millions, according to Mirror Online.

People in Liverpool have also reported the popular social media apps are not working for them due to the network problems.

According to Down Detector, the issues started at around 9am, and are affecting users across the UK and Europe, with western Europe appearing to be most affected.

While the reason for the issues remains unclear, of those who reported problems, 80% said they weren't receiving messages, while 20% couldn't log-in.

A Facebook company spokesperson said: “We are aware that some people are having trouble sending messages on Messenger, Instagram and Workplace Chat.

We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.” Unsurprisingly, several frustrated users have taken to Twitter to question what's going on.

One user wrote: "Is Facebook Messenger down? I cannot send and receive messages!" Another said: "Either Facebook messenger is down on my phone or my wifi is extremely poor this morn.

Let me text my friends back!" And one added: "Yeah so Facebook messenger be down or I’m really trippin." Worryingly, DownDetector has also issues alerts for Facebook and Instagram - two other Facebook-owned apps.

Some users in the UK have reported no issues, however, Twitter is awash with claims that there are issues with several Facebook-owned apps.

One user said: "Instagram dms down again? OK." And another added: "instagram dms are down right i’m not just tripping."

With over 2.7 billion monthly active users as of the second quarter of 2020, Facebook is the biggest social network worldwide.
