Facebook confirmed it is working on fixing problems with its newsfeed after users complained about feeds overrun by posts from strangers directed at celebrity accounts.
The glitch has led to more than 2,500 complaints on Downdetector when users began reporting the issue around 6:30am on Wednesday morning. The social media giant has issued a statement promising to restore newsfeeds 'back to normal' as soon as possible.
"We're aware that some people are having trouble with their Facebook feed. We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience," said a spokesperson for Meta, Facebook's parent company.
Affected users have been taken to Twitter to share their confusion and check if others are having the same issue, KentLive reported, causing the term "my Facebook" to start trending on the social media site.
User @shadeyxo tweeted: "Why is my Facebook timeline full of people posting on celebrity pages timelines? I'm about to delete fb cause hell no."
"why has my Facebook turned into seeing what everyone is sharing to Demi Lovato's Facebook page?" said @KristianSWelch.
@Hannah_S39 added: "What the hell has happened to my @facebook literally all I can see at the moment is random people from all over the world sharing photos to celebrities' pages? Do I care? Where are all the people I actually know?"
Some users may be glad of the break as @leofebey said: "My Facebook seems to be overrun by people posting to celebrities pages. Which is fine I guess, I could do with a break from Facebook."
