Facebook down? Thousands of Virgin Media customers claim pictures aren't loading

Facebook appears to be suffering technical issues, with thousands of users in the UK complaining that pictures aren't loading properly on the social network.

The problem seems to be only affecting Virgin Media customers attempting to access the site over their WiFi networks.

The site has been having issues since 11:12 BST, according to website DownDetector, which monitors online outages.

Only Facebook users in the UK are affected, with 39% of those reporting problems with pictures loading, and 41% reporting a "total blackout".

"Cannot get facebook to load properly just a lot of writing down one side of screen, am a Virgin Media user... however it is loading on my phone!!!" one user wrote on the DownDetector forum.

"Started with no images now it just goes to a black screen," wrote another.

Virgin Media has acknowledged the problem on its Service Status page and via its official Twitter account.

"Customers may be experiencing problems loading Images on Facebook and Instagram," a message on the service site reads.

"Our engineer is working to fix the problem. Fix estimate: 20 June 19:10."

Mirror Online has contacted Facebook for comment..

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: “We’re aware that some Virgin Media customers were intermittently unable to access some Facebook and Instagram features. This was due to a technical issue which has now been fixed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
