Facebook down: Social media site crashes for users across the UK and US

It’s the go-to social media site for many people, but it seems that Facebook has crashed this afternoon.

The issues started at around 2pm GMT, and are affecting users in both the UK and US, according to down detector.

While the reason for the outage remains unclear, of those who reported issues, 50% said they were experiencing a total blackout, 26% had problems logging in, and 23% had issues with photos.

Facebook claims that the outage is for 'required maintenance', and that it should be back online 'within a few minutes.'

Many frustrated users have taken to Twitter to discuss the outage.

One user said: "Really not cool when Facebook is down... makes my job a lot more difficult!"

Another added: "Is Facebook down or did they jail me without telling me and for no reason?"

And one joked: "Hi! Like you, I am also here just to check if Facebook is Down for me, or everyone else. PS: It's not just you."

It remains unclear how long Facebook is likely to be down for. Mirror Online has contacted Facebook for comment.
