Facebook down as users report outages on social media site

Facebook is down for hundreds of users.

Down Detector, which records the number of people reporting issues with different websites using various sources, shows people are unable to access Facebook and Messenger.

And Instagram and WhatsApp users are also reporting outages to Down Detector.

Users started to report issues from 12.30pm this afternoon.

Down Detector is reporting that most of the issues are for those trying to access the website rather than the app.

Many have been taking to Twitter to report their issues - with photos of the Facebook website showing an error message which says 'sorry, something went wrong', the Mirror report.

The error message adds: "We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can."

Service outages on major platforms are not uncommon.

Users reported on November 19 that Facebook and Instagram were down - with issues continuing to plague technology firms.

But in October, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were shuttered by a global outage that took longer to fix than expected.

The widespread disruption was blamed on a “faulty configuration change” at the time.
