Facebook DELETES Mark Zuckerberg's old posts - but claims it was 'by mistake'

Facebook has hit the headlines once again today, after a report revealed that the platform has deleted several of Mark Zuckerberg’s old posts.

The report, by Business Insider , revealed that many of the Facebook CEO’s posts that were previously public have now disappeared from his page.

This includes all posts made from 2007-2008.

Speaking to Business Insider, Facebook said that posts had been deleted ‘by mistake’, due to ‘technical errors.’

Facebook stored hundreds of millions of users' passwords in plain text for YEARS

The spokesperson for Facebook said: “A few years ago some of Mark's posts were mistakenly deleted due to technical errors.

“The work required to restore them would have been extensive and not guaranteed to be successful so we didn't do it.

"We agree people should be able to find information about past announcements and major company news, which is why for years we've shared and archived this information publicly — first on our blog and in recent years on our Newsroom.”

Among the most important posts deleted was Zuckerberg’s announcement about Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram in 2012 - an important part of the platform’s history.

Worryingly, Facebook says it doesn’t know how many posts were deleted in total.

While Facebook does have a Newsroom where most of its announcements are now made, many previous announcements aren’t included on this site.

Following the report, Facebook has now added a public ‘notes’ tab to the ‘Facebook’ page, where users can access the deleted posts.
