Facebook could FINALLY bring Messenger back into its main app

It’s something that users have been asking for for years, and now it seems that Messenger could finally be coming back to the main Facebook app.

Since 2014, users have been forced to have two apps - the main Facebook app and a standalone Messenger app.

But that looks set to change, according to app researcher Jane Manchun Wong.

Ms Wong spotted a Messenger icon in the beta version of Facebook, which took her to a new ‘Chats’ section, rather than opening the separate Messenger app.

Facebook update makes it easier for users to honour deceased loved ones

However, Ms Wong noted that this Chats section only contains a limited number of Messenger features.

She added: “For now, this new ‘Chats’ section seems to only contain the basic chat functionalities. To give message reactions, make a call, send photos, etc, you'd still have to open the Messenger app.”

Facebook and Twitter could be held to a time limit to remove harmful content

This suggests that Facebook might not ditch the Messenger app entirely, but instead allow users to access basic chats from the main Facebook app.

It remains unclear when, or if, Facebook plans to roll out the change.
