Social media giant Facebook (FB) is working to battle the fake news problem by sending more potential hoax stories to third party fact checkers and showing the findings below the post.
Beginning Thursday, Facebook users in the U.S. and a few other locations see popular links, which could include fake news stories, and there will be a group of other "related articles" for users to look through.
This is part of Facebook's plan to limit the negative impact a hoax news story can have without censoring the content, the Wall Street Journal says.
Facebook received some backlash last year after the 2016 presidential election for failing to combat the spread of false and misleading news stories. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg would eventually acknowledge the platform's responsibility to limit the spread of hoax news.
