Facebook appeal sees dozens of cards and presents left for Bury youngster on his sixth birthday

A Bury youngster who was forced cancel his 6th birthday party due to coronavirus had his day saved by the kindness of strangers.

Thoughtful locals dropped off around 50 cards, pictures and presents for little Max Greenhaugh on Friday, March 27.

It came following a desperate Facebook plea from his mum Tasmin Dawes in a bid to cheer him up.

Max, from Ainsworth, was left devastated after being told he wouldn’t be able to see any of his family or friends on his birthday.

His family were forced to cancel his bowling party due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Student nurse Tasmin asked parents if any children would be willing to draw him a picture and stick it to his window.

Mum Tasmin made the Facebook appeal for help (Facebook)

She posted online expecting only a few visitors to show up.

However, the family were blown away when dozens of people turned out to help Max celebrate his special day.

She said: “The party was meant to be on Friday, he was gutted.

“I just thought it would be a couple of kids come, it also gives them something to do.

“People were coming and going all day, people we don’t even know.

“He was loving it, it made his day. People were leaving things on the doorstep and he would run to the door to see what they were.

“Kids were even leaving him games to play. It made me feel so happy that everybody cares, it’s a good little community.

“We were smiling all day.

“For people who we don’t even know to show up, that’s quite special. Everybody made an effort for a little boy they don’t even know.”
