Facebook and Instagram DOWN for the second time in a week as thousands report outage

Facebook and Instagram have gone down in a widespread outage for the second time in just a week.

According to Downdetector, which monitors the status of some of the most-heavily visited websites in the world, there were 36,000 reports of malfunctioning for Instagram at about 7:30pm UK time.

More than half (58 per cent) had to do with the app while 23 per cent related to server connection issues.

Facebook and Facebook Messenger also appear to be down for some users as 765 and 954 reports were received by Downdetector respectively.

Up to 60 per cent of the Facebook reports related to issues accessing the website while 24 per cent had to do with the app.

There currently don't seem to be as many WhatsApp users experiencing issues as there are with Facebook and Instagram, but reports did spike in the past hour to 141.

A Twitter hashtag #Instagramisdown is already making the rounds on the platform, which on Monday became people's go-to when all the other main social platforms were down.

Facebook released a statement which read: "We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience."
