Facebook and Instagram down as users complain about more issues on social media sites

Users are reporting that Facebook and Instagram have gone down again - with issues continuing to plague technology firms.

According to DownDetector, thousands of people are having problems with the social media sites.

The messaging app WhatsApp is also said to be affected.

All three platforms are owned by parent company Meta, which was formerly known as Facebook.

People in the UK, India and the US are reporting problems.

The outage follows snags with several Google-owned sites last week.

GMail and YouTube both experienced problems, as the Cloud went down.

Hundreds of people previously reported having difficulties accessing Facebook and Instagram in early November.

That came just a month after the sites went down for around six hours, affecting billions of users around the world.

One person said of the most recent outage, on Friday: "Facebook, Instagram & WhatsApp down again."

Another posted: "@downdetector is busy again with reports of Big Tech platforms dropping like flies in Europe and the US.

"Users claim feeds are down or not refreshing, with other glitches like sound and images not loading."

The problems appeared to peak at around 5pm, before tailing off.
