Face to face teaching cancelled at South Lanarkshire college amid COVID-19 pandemic

All face-to face teaching at South Lanarkshire College has been cancelled amid the coronavirus crisis.

It follows closures of other further educational establishments across the country including nearby University of the West of Scotland where there was a confirmed case of COVID-19.

Classes at the East Kilbride based South Lanarkshire College had been going ahead with restrictions in place including a cessation of business travel and increased use of technology.

But as of this week the decision was taken to stop classes and the college say students will be updated this week, beginning March 23.

However, student support funding will continue during this period. Schools are also due to close by Friday.

The number of deaths from COVID-19 in Scotland has doubled from three to six.

Meanwhile, all sport, leisure and cultural venues in East Renfrewshire have also been closed as of noon yesterday (Wednesday).

This includes leisure centres, libraries, community halls and Eastwood Park Theatre and all events.

All membership fees, including direct debits, will be frozen automatically throughout the closure, you do not need to take action on this.

Anyone who has paid for classes or other services that cannot be delivered will be contacted directly in the coming weeks.

This includes pre-paid school holiday programme bookings.

Further updates will be posted on the council's website and on social media soon as they are available
