Face of man police want to trace after 'shots fired' inside Bootle Halifax bank

Merseyside Police have released an image of a man they would like to speak to after shots were reportedly fired in a Bootle bank on Monday.

Earlier this week, emergency services swarmed to the Strand Shopping Centre after reports shots had been fired in the Halifax branch. Police confirmed they received reports a "gun had been fired" at the branch inside the centre, before a man made off from the scene on a dark mountain bike.

No injuries were reported but members of staff and customers in the bank were left "extremely shaken" by the incident. On Tuesday, the force confirmed the weapon fired was a "blank firer and not a viable firearm".

Today, Merseyside Police released an image of the face of the man they believe can help with their investigation. Detectives believe Adam Gilbert, 36, from Bootle, may have information that could help their investigation into the attempted robbery.

Gilbert is described as white, around 5ft 9in tall, of medium build, with ginger hair and blue eyes. Anyone who has seen him or knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook or call 101 with reference 22000373098. You can also call Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111, or their online form at https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information.

Eyewitnesses described how they had seen customers running out of the door and calling for help following the incident on Monday afternoon. Halifax was also closed "until further notice" as were other stored such as Game and The Perfume Shop.

Chief Inspector Gary O’Rourke previously said: "This was an incredibly reckless act which would have been an extremely shocking for anyone to witness. I’d like to reassure the community that while the investigation is in its early stages, we’re working tirelessly to locate the person responsible and remove him from the streets.
