A violent offender who stabbed a man with a knife and attacked him with a screwdriver has been locked up.
The 43-year-old victim was stabbed to his thigh after he lifted his leg to defend himself during the attack in Scotholme Avenue, Hyson Green.
He was attacked by 30-year-old Mohammad Ibrihim who ran towards him before using a knife he had pulled from his waistband.
Afterwards Ibrihim ran off and hid behind a bin in an alley. The bleeding victim, who had chased after him, called the police.
However a short time later Ibrihim reappeared with a screwdriver and tried to attack him again. He managed to grab Ibrihim’s hand and took him to the floor, restraining him until police arrived soon after and arrested him.
The victim needed four stitches in his leg and suffered a foot injury during the incident which happened at around 7.50pm on July 9.
Days earlier he had been approached by Ibrihim in Radford Road who asked him for some cigarettes but he became aggressive and abusive after he refused.
Ibrihim, of All Saints Street, Radford, went on to plead guilty to wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
He was jailed for three years when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday (December 2).
Detective Constable Laura McCullough, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a violent attack during early evening daylight hours and within the sight and hearing of members of the public.
“Our work in this case is another example of how seriously we treat knife crime and how committed the force is to driving down knife crime in our communities and keeping people safe. This includes having two dedicated knife crime teams who proactively target knife carriers and who are working constantly to reduce violence and prevent incidents from happening in the first place.
"Weapon-enabled crime will not be tolerated in our city and county and I’d like to reassure people the force is continuing to do everything in its power to protect the public and remove dangerous individuals and weapons from our streets.”
