Face of ISIS bride Shamima Begum used on a target at shooting range for 'light-hearted fun', owners say

ISIS bride Shamima Begum’s face is being used on a target at a shooting range whose owners today defended it as “light-hearted fun”.

The Ultimate Airsoft LTD range placed a black and white image of the 19-year-old with cross-hairs over it claiming they offered the poster as a target due to high demand from customers.

In a statement to the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire, the business said: “The targets provide some fantastic reactions and conversations and allow people to have some light-hearted fun and bring out the inner child in us all.”

They added that the targets are not always a reflection of “personal opinions” and those involved "certainly don't want to condone terrorism".

The use of Ms Begum’s image was decided upon following the “lack of remorse and empathy” shown by her in interviews, the business added.

Those shooting at the establishment, based in Wallasey near Liverpool, can use airsoft rifles and pistols to shoot at the image alongside other targets from a cost of £7.

Children as young as six are able to participate in shooting at the centre as long as they are accompanied by an adult, its Facebook page states.

Other pictures used for shooting practice at the firm include Justin Bieber, Donald Trump, Osama Bin Laden and Adolf Hitler.

The Standard has contacted Ultimate Airsoft LTD directly for comment.

Victoria Derbyshire reported on the range, prompting polarised responses from watchers.

Some called it “childish”, “disgusting” and “distasteful”.

However, one contacted the show to say: “She is a representative of what drones are made for. Do it.”

Begum was one of three schoolgirls to leave Bethnal Green to join IS in 2015 and resurfaced heavily pregnant at a Syrian refugee camp earlier this month.

She pleaded to return while pregnant and has since given birth to a boy.

Her attempts to come to the UK sparked a row. Sajid Javid, the Home Secretary, last week stripped Begum of her citizenship.

This was on advice she qualified for Bangladeshi citizenship through her mother.

Bangladesh has rejected the possibility of taking her however, and her lawyer has claimed she does not have dual citizenship.

It has also been suggested her son would be able to gain British citizenship despite hers being revoked.
