Following a rise in coronavirus cases across Scotland as kids returned to school earlier in August, plans to introduce face coverings were discussed by the Scottish Government.
Pupils in schools across Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Midlothian, Ayrshire and Dundee were found to have tested positive, leading to concerns about the lack of ability for pupils to properly exercise social distancing.
Earlier this week, Education Secretary John Swinney announced that, from Monday August 31 face coverings must be worn in secondary schools by children over the age of 12.
The new rule has been introduced in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus in Scots schools and masks will have to be worn in corridors, indoor communal areas and travelling on buses.
However, the Scottish Government says that no pupil should be excluded from school if they do not wear one.
